Backer Rod

Flexible polyethylene foam filler product inserted into construction joints in concrete floors and pavements. Its main function is to reduce the amount of sealant needed for the joint. Available in sizes ranging from 1/4" to 4" in external diameter.

Closed Cell

Our Backer Rod is composed of a flexible, 100% closed-cell polyethylene joint filler.

Highly Resistant

Its closed-cell composition makes our Backer Rod highly resistant to water and moisture.

Compatible

It's compatible with the majority of traditional sealants such as silicone, urethane, acrylic, butyl rubber, latex, and crack fillers. Additionally, it's a non-adhesive product and won't stick to the sealants.

Recommendations

It's important to ensure that the concrete joints to be filled are dry and free of any loose material. Choosing the appropriate size of Backer Rod for the joint width is key. We recommend using a non-sharp tool to compress the filler to the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer for best results.

  • What is its main use?

Our Backer Rod should be installed in concrete joints or gaps prior to the application of sealant. Doing this avoids the excessive use of sealant.

  • Can it be used in humid environments?

Yes, it is composed of closed-cell polyethylene foam, which prevents it from absorbing moisture and makes it a waterproof product.

  • How do I know which size of Backer Rod to use?

It's important to note that the size of Backer Rod is not the same as the size of the joint. The Backer Rod's size is always larger than the joint. Please refer to the table at the bottom of the specification sheet to accurately determine which size of Backer Rod to use.

  • Is it compatible with all types of sealant chemicals?

Yes. In addition to being a chemically inert and solvent-resistant product, it is compatible with butyl, polysulfide, polyurethane silicone, and acrylic sealants.
